Srikishan Sarda College, Hailakandi, was established on 18th September 1950. It is one of the premier institutions of higher education and providing quality education to the students of the district of Hailakandi and also the students from surrounding districts and neighbouring states as well.
The donor of the land of the college was Late Pratap Chandra Nath and the founder Principal of the college was Late Sisir Kar Shastri.
The college is now affiliated to Assam University, Silchar, a Central University constituted under the Act XII of parliament in the year 1994. The College has been reaccredited as Grade ‘A’ with CGPA 3.12 by the NAAC in 2011.
Srikishan Sarda College, popularly known as S. S. College was established on 18th September in
the year 1950. It is the oldest higher educational institution in the present day Hailakandi
district. At that time the college was affiliated to Gauhati University, but after the
establishment of Assam University, Silchar, (A Central University constituted under act XIII of
1989), the college was affiliated to this university from the year 1994. The college is
recognized by UGC under act 2(f) and 12 (b) of the UGC act 1956. The college is situtated in Hailakandi district in the state of Assam, India. The place where the college is located is a
remote place. The nearest airport is Silchar Airport (Kumbirgram), which is nearly 65KM away from the
college. Though Hailakandi rail station is nearly 1.5Km away from the college but no direct
train connects the place to the rest of the country. Daily night bus service is available,
through which the place is connected to the rest of the country.
Late
Sisir Kar Sashtri, a versatile personality and eminent scholar was the founder Principal of this
college , whose untiring efforts, coupled with sincere co-operation from localites and conscious
citizens ensures smooth establishment of the college. Advocate Gangadhar Biswas was the first
president of the college governing body.
2002: In the year 2002, Mr.
Uday Shankar Chakraborty of Department of Mathematics got the award of Best graduate from Assam
University, Silchar.
2008: In the year 2008, Mr. Arpan Paul of Department of Zoology was awarded best
graduate by Assam University, Silchar.
2011: The college was Re-accredited as 'A' Grade
College with CGPA 3.12 by NAAC on 30th Nov 2011. This is the first NAAC accredited 'A' Grade College of the locality.
2012: The star college project was sanctioned in the
year 2012 to this college by the Department
of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi .
2013-14: From the session 2013-14, the college opened
a new stream (Commerce Stream). Which has opened a
new dimention for the student of this locality. Students were able to pursue B. Com Cources
from this college.
2014: Mr. Akshay Saha, a student of H.S. Second Year
Science secured 6th (Sixth) Position in the
Higher Secondary (Science) Final Examination conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education
Council (AHSEC) in the year 2014.
